What We Do
Noah's Arc is a registered animal rescue charity in the Murcia region of Spain created to rescue injured and badly treated animals. The main focus has been on dogs. Whilst we currently can only take in dogs we always try to help with any injured animal. It is our intention to build more relationships with other specialist animal charities throughout Europe to ensure that we can help re home more animals.
Our work not only involves sick and badly treated animals but accident cases as well. We are often called out to rescue or relieve the suffering of animals that have been dealt the final blow. After months of roaming the countryside and towns, looking for food, water and often their owners, they end up crossing a road. Some are lucky and are killed instantly but others lie suffering until help arrives. One such a case was called her Fay. Hit by a car, she was not only covered in ticks and with fear in her eyes, but unable to move because her pelvis was shattered and her spine broken. We had no choice but to end her life, SUCH AS IT WAS.
This rescue alone not only makes us feel sick at the way so many people treat dogs but involves a cost of around 300 euros, just to collect a dog to put it out of its misery. Add to that the feelings of the personnel involved who often end up in tears. This is why your donations are important. Without funds, that dog would have had to lie there suffering for heaven knows how long, anything up to a day or more, in fear and agony.
Area of coverage: Please see map below
Noah's Arc have rescued animals that are now ready for re homing, and each one is carefully assessed for its suitability according to your circumstances. We are now able to send our dogs to most European destinations quite quickly with all the necessary paperwork and treatment, so if you live outside Spain and would like to have one of our beautiful dogs, contact us. and we will give you a breakdown of the cost according to your countries requirements. From January 1st 2012 dogs can travel to UK just 21 days after the rabies jab, this is now inline with other EU contries.
Noah's Arc dogs have all been thoroughly cared for by our team of specialist vets and most are less than two years old. Many were strays found in the local area, some have had an injury, or been involved in a road accident. Each dog will have details of any injuries they may have or have had listed underneath each dog along with details of the dogs character once you have clicked on the picture.
Noah's Arc is dependant on donations from the public, and money raised in our two shops at Puerto de Mazarron and Mazarron Town. The shops, which are run by volunteers, sell donated items such as clothes, furniture and bric-a-brac. We also raise funds by organising social events such as auctions, BBQ's and fetes. Though we do have some sponsors we are constantly looking for more local businesses to become involved.
We also support Greyhound in Need Holland - the following is the latest news from them-
Dear Galgofriends,
Our efforts on the EU front have not been in vain! Yesterday, the members of the European Parliament sent the official letter to the President of Spain, which we have inserted below. Though it does not address the issue of indiscriminate breeding, it strongly addresses the political neglect of the horrendous cruelty inflicted upon the galgos. Their call for an urgent response cannot remain unanswered!
Furthermore, and especially important to gain more exposure within the EU, Miss Liotard presented an extensive written question to the EU Commission yesterday. Here not only the cruelty and neglect, but also the indiscriminate breeding and dumping is a topic of concern. Through this question, the plight of the galgo is once again highlighted on the European political stage.
Without your cooperation and support it would not have gained this attention. To increase the impact and visibility, we would like to ask you to post the letter on your website. We therefore send both the letter as well as the translation of the written question to you as attachment. (go to link at bottom of this update to see letter)
For our Spanish friends, we are working on a translation, but this might take a bit longer.
Hopefully the response from both the Spanish government as from the EU Commission will not take too long. As soon as we have further news, we will let you know.
Once again, thank you very much for your efforts and support.
Warm regards,
Letty Ubbink
