Sophies StoryThere have been some truly moving cases of rescue with some horrific stories. Galgos (Spanish greyhounds) are often hung from trees, thrown down wells, shot or even poisoned in order to inflict the most agonising death. The Spanish hunters seem to treat these dogs with contempt, which is ironic since Galgos are some of the most docile and placid people loving dogs on the planet! When hanging the dog from a low branch, in order to stay alive the dogs must stand on their hind legs for as long as possible, until too exhausted to stand any further, they slowly hang by the neck until they either, try to once again stand on their hind legs, or die from asphyxiation which in the end is inevitable. One poor girl called “Sophie” was saved from this horror she was seen hanging from a tree. The rescuer seeing this horrific sight was able to cut her free whilst Sophie was struggling for every breath. The rescuer (traumatised herself by witnessing the scene), rushed her to a local vet who fought to save Sophie, He attended to the horrific lacerations to her neck, and after a short period in hospital was eventually able to recover. She has become the most placid of creatures who only wanted to please and love someone who would love her back. Sophie was re homed and is now a very happy girl. |
