If I work as a volunteer for Noahs Arc can I claim expenses?
Well I personally feel that anyone working with us should be free to decide for themselves as to whether they claim any expenses or not.
If someone telephoned me and wanted to help Noah's Arc and the dogs it cares about but was unable to pay Noah's Arc for the privilege (which is effectively what not allowing expenses is all about), then why should I not allow them to help us.
You know when people move to Spain from England to live their dream; they often have very strong views about what they want to do when they get here! Some are happy to relax and potter about (as I used to do), filling my days with this and that. But after a while of doing very little, some people feel as though they need something more in their life; a sense of purpose, the feeling of being useful and worthwhile, the feeling of knowing that you are really making a difference, not only in the lives of others but also for yourself.
By helping us, you are doing something really worthwhile, something very special and entirely unselfishly for others, and you know the old saying its better to give than to receive, well I have got news for you its absolutely true!
Unfortunately many people on a fixed income could not afford the extra money it can cost to help if we were not to allow expenses.
Some committee members have asked that no member or volunteer working with Noah's Arc should be allowed to claim expenses for use of telephone or petrol in connection with the charity. That any raffle prizes for instance, bought by volunteers, would no longer be refunded, that costs involved in producing for instance, our web site should also be absorbed by the volunteer.
We have actually had committee members feel so strongly about this that they have resigned because their view disagreed with the majority.
What kind of people would we be to deny that person the right to help us if they felt that they wanted to, but refused to allow reasonable expenses?
